Let It Snow!Crocheted Snowflakes Workshop
We will be giving you patterns for three snowflakes and an icicle. You can finish all four items – they are small and quick to make. Then we will teach you how to starch, block and dry the snowflakes and icicles so that you can take them home, and make more!
Skill level/Prerequisites:
This class is for advanced beginners and up who have done some crocheting and know basic stitches: chain stitch, slip stitch, single, half double, double and treble crochet. We will be crocheting with cotton “thread.” In some ways it is easier to use than yarn because it is very forgiving. We will review any stitches that people might not know, and are commonly used in snowflakes, such as the picot. If need be, we will take a few minutes to practice, especially if you have never used thread crochet cotton before.
Materials:
All materials needed for this class are available at the Janet Kemp Fine Yarns studio except for the first five, and some of these you may already have at home:
Wear a ring with a raised stone on your left ring finger, or a yarn holding ring if you have one
Cork Board – get 11” by 17” framed at Wal Mart for $3.88
A spray can of heavy starch
A small plastic storage container with a lid – about 4” by 4” or so, to spray the starch in.
For the rest of these items, come to class a half hour to 20 minutes early, and we will help you select the rest of the items needed:
One ball of #10 white crochet cotton
A size 7 or 8 crochet hook
T pins (for blocking)
A small blunt tip tapestry needle (for finishing off the thread ends)
